Epic Bike Ride Day 47 July 14th

Thoughts from Mark:  OH CANADA!  I rode a few miles into Eureka, MT, and we stopped at a bar/duty free shop right on the Canadian/U.S.A. border for a quick bite, and then we crossed into Canada.  The guard didn’t really even flinch when I told him what we were doing (this was the first time I had ever entered another country by bike).  Kelly was right behind me in the truck, and he didn’t ask too many questions of her, either.  We rode on for a few KM, and eventually took a break at a roadside ice cream shop, which was doing HUGE business.  There were some beautiful lakes and rivers nearby, and the line was full of people in swimsuits.  I had a delicious strawberry cheesecake “blizzard-like” ice cream, and it was fantastic.  I really think an ice cream shop is just about the easiest form of money making business out there.  Nobody ever sends back their ice cream, saying they didn’t like it.

We decided to end the day in Fernie, and the last two hours of riding were just about the nicest scenery we have seen so far.  The road ran alongside a beautiful blue-green river, with very tall and steep mountains surrounding the valley.  There were signs indicating big horned sheep were in the area, but unfortunately I didn’t see any.  At one point, I stopped to take a picture of the river, with the mountains in the background, and as I was finishing, I noticed a moose drinking from the river!  I took another picture, trying to zoom in on the moose, but my phone camera isn’t the best.  We made it to Fernie, and found a BC parks campground, which had showers, dish washing areas, and was extremely full of people.  We thought we found an empty spot, but the Ranger told us it had already been reserved.  After explaining our situation, and saying we just needed a parking spot, she let us stay in the parking spot of one of the tent camping spots.
