Epic Bike Ride Day 29 June 25th

Thoughts from Mark:  We drove from Rawlins to the spot where we had stopped riding yesterday.  This was easily located, as it was two hills from a property that had 4 mobile homes lined up in a straight line, and each was somehow in worse shape than the one next to it.  Also, there were probably 40-50 full sized liquor bottles blocking the driveway, each with a mysterious looking blend of liquid in them, and some yellow tape hanging from two 55 gallon drums, just to complete the look.  There are undoubtedly some interesting characters living in these remote places, and I was glad to keep driving past this one.

Riding through The Great Basin was interesting.  The winds were very strong today, and were mainly from the West, which was the direction I was riding for the majority of the day.  This meant I had to fight a headwind for a large portion of the day.  Along the way, we met Finnegan and Nathan, two 19 year old guys from the Salt Lake City area, also riding northbound.  We gave them some water (we bought extra in Rawlins, knowing it was going to be useful), and had some almond butter and jam on crackers (we ran out of bread).  The guys seemed to enjoy the company, and the supplies.  We played leapfrog with them a couple more times the rest of the day, and Finnegan even broke out his didgeridoo!

Thoughts from Kelly: Wyoming wind is tough! The drive for me today was tough since there isn’t much to look at.  There were some animals here and there, mostly cows (I know, what a surprise) and deer-like animals.  The day seemed to drag on and on for me, I can’t imagine how hard it is on a bike during this stretch.  We rode till sunset today, which was very pretty, and stopped at a relatively flat area for the night.

Miles for the day:  56.39          Feet climbed today:  1,835

Total miles ridden:  1,346.7     Total feet climbed:  89,862
