Epic Bike Ride Day 28 June 24

Thoughts from Mark:  The ride into Rawlins was fairly uneventful.  It was about 25 miles from where we camped the night before, and I was feeling ok on the bike.  We stopped for lunch in Rawlins at a sports bar, and headed out into “The Great Basin.”  This was a very remote, very dry area, and is fairly famous in the bikepacking community for being extremely tough to ride, as the winds can be fierce, and water is scarce.  We decided to ride for about 25 miles, then drive back to Rawlins, and stay there for the night.  (Also, the Stanley Cup Final was on, and it was game 7).  For those who might not know, the Florida Panthers beat the Edmonton Oilers, and won their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.  It was a decent game, and we ended up watching it in a hotel (our first of the entire trip - Thanks Matthew and Savanna).

Thoughts from Kelly: I definitely was not feeling all that great today.  I powered through the drive which was windy and mostly pavement, with some nice distant mountains.  Driving in the the great basin area was very reminiscent of the vast deserts of southern New Mexico. I was very thankful for the chance to stay at a hotel for the night.  Mark loved watching the Stanley Cup game 7, and I was fast asleep soon after it ended.

Miles for the day:  57.54          Feet climbed today:  2,062

Total miles ridden:  1,290.31     Total feet climbed:  88,027
